Plasma Based Ultrafine Particle Synthesis Process (PSP)
Do you like this story?
This is a new technique to produce nanomaterials This technique uses an industrial plasma spray system to produce nanomaterials under atmospheric conditions and a parallel plate electrostatic precipitator to collect the nanomaterials.
Nanomaterials, including alumina, zirconia and YSZ, have been produced by this process and have characteristics similar to that produced by other techniques. PSP is a single step viable process to produce both nanomaterial powders and deposits. No post-spray calcination or heat treatment is required.
PSP is a simple process to install and operate as many commercial systems which are already in place within industry can be adapted for a value-added process and/or product. But the yield, efficiency and the properties of the synthesized materials (such as size, shape and phase composition) depend strongly on the spray feedstock.
PSP is an economical, versatile and flexible process as it does not use costly equipment such as high power lasers and ultra high vacuum systems and complex composite materials with tailored compositions can be synthesized.
