Nanotechnology based LED display screen

Now LED technology is widely used everywhere. They are the bright pin lights often used on electronics as power and status indicators or as backlights. Using nanotechnology, these ultra-bright little lights can now be integrated on a panel dense enough to act as a display. By putting them in, while controlling intensity any color can be created. Nano-based LED displays are the size of LCD displays but are even brighter than CRTs and allow for smooth, crisp animation. What nanotechnology adds is the ability to make them small enough to put them into color-controllable clusters and pack them densely enough to create an image that is smooth to the human eye. The production of displays with low energy consumption could be accomplished using carbon nanotubes (CNT). Carbon nanotubes can be electrically conductive and due to their small diameter of several nanometers, they can be used as field emitters with extremely high efficiency for field emission displays (FED). OLED (organic light emitting diodes) color screens (made of nanostructured polymer films) are used in car stereos and cell phones. OLEDs may enable thinner, lighter, more flexible, less power consuming displays, and other consumer products such as cameras, PDAs, laptops, televisions, and other as yet undreamt of applications. The huge market for large area, high brightness, flat-panel displays, as used in television screens and computer monitors is driving the development of some nanomaterials. Nanocrystalline zinc selenide, zinc sulphide, cadmium sulphide and lead telluride synthesized by sol–gel techniques (a process for making ceramic and glass materials, involving the transition from a liquid ‘sol’ phase to a solid ‘gel’ phase) are candidates for the next generation of light-emitting phosphors. CNTs are being investigated for low voltage field-emission displays; their strength, sharpness, conductivity and inertness make them potentially very efficient and long-lasting emitters.
