Nanotechnology helps fast healing of wound
Do you like this story?
The healing speed of wound is sometimes delayed by wound inflammation caused by bacteria. But to accelerate healing nanotechnology has the answer. Wound dressings and medical applications have now been revolutionized using nanotechnology. The nanoparticle aggregate wound dressing has an unique property of controlled release of growth factors and other actives to accelerate wound healing. Active healing agents can be trapped between the nanoparticles to control the release of these actives to promote wound healing. The mechanism involved is to store silver ions and incorporate a time-release mechanism which usually involves some form of moisture layer that the silver ions are transported through to create a protective barrier against bacteria. In fact the nanosilver dressings when tested for toxicity to mammalian tissue showed no adverse effects with no evidence of systemic silver absorption and clinical studies showed no adverse effects. Immediate shape-retentive wound dressings using hydrogel nanoparticle powders are also available.
