Nanotechnology based high-strength steels

Creep-resistant steel is so complex and costly to make that it is generally used only in applications like boilers and turbines in power plants. Researchers in Japan have found a way to make this steel with conventional processing methods using nanometer-scale carbonitride particles that migrate to vulnerable regions within the steel. The steel they have created takes twice as long to rupture as the most creep-resistant steel currently in use and will eventually be less expensive to manufacture.
