Rolled-up nanotech
Do you like this story?
A technology that allows to create and integrate new types of micro and nanoobjects with attractive shapes and geometries, called rolled-up nanotech has been reported to be possible. Apart from its beauty, rolled-up nanotech can open up ways for new approaches to realize tiny pipelines for fluid transport, light emitters, waveguides and ring resonators on a single chip. The approach seems also promising as a base technology for inductors, capacitors, sensors or other micromechanical devices. To create rolled-up nanotech, highly strained layers are released from the substrate surface by selective underetching. The strain drives the roll-up of the thin layer and well-postioned tubes of a few nanometers in diameter.
