Nano magnesium oxide

Magnesium oxide, or magnesia, is a white solid mineral that occurs naturally and is a source of magnesium. It has an empirical formula of MgO. It is formed by an ionic bond between one magnesium and one oxygen atom. Magnesium oxide is hygroscopic in nature and needs to be protected from moisture.

Nano-MgO

Nano-MgO can be prepared by four different methods using Mg(NO3)2.6H2O, Na2CO3, urea and ammonia as raw materials. It has been found by research that the bactericidal efficacy of nano-MgO increases with decreasing particle size. The nano-MgO has better bactericidal activity than TiO2 which is a common photoactive bactericidal material. both when used directly and as an additive in an interior wall paint. Furthermore, nano-MgO is found to be active even in the absence of irradiation.because MgO is an efficient moisture absorbent It is used in libraries for preserving books, as one of the raw materials for making Portland cement in dry process, in medicine for relief of heartburn and sore stomach, as an antacid, as magnesium supplement, and as a short-term laxative, in industry as an insulator in industrial cables, as a basic refractory material for crucibles, as a principal fireproofing ingredient, for moisture resistance, mold and mildew resistance in construction materials.
