Silicon carbide Nanowires and nanotubes manufacture
Do you like this story?
For the manufacture of Silicon carbide Nanowires, carbon nanotubes are mixed with nanosize silicon powder and then the mix is heated under argon atmosphere at normal pressure in a furnace for several hours. Specimens are then oxidized to remove the excess of carbon nanotubes and then treated with KOH to remove silicon. When Si is in the liquid phase, silicon carbide coated carbon nanotubes are produced and when Si is in the solid phase, pure SiC nanowires of diameter about 20 nm. are produced.
